Update on Above and Below Competition
Posted by Rowena Cory Daniells on February 2, 2011
Okay guys, it looks like no one wanted to do their homework. The give-away question was:-
‘All you have to do is write, in five hundred words or less, what your hobby would be if you lived in a city that floated in the sky.’
Ben’s come up with an easier, breezier question. For a chance to win a copy of Above/Below Ben asks:
‘What album would you drop on people you didn’t like?’
Most interesting album and explanation wins!

‘What album would you drop on people you didn’t like?’Anything by Celine Dion. Just can’t handle her annoying voice or the fact her songs get stuck in your head and take up residence. Hopefully said enemy would not only gain a headache but listen to it for extra torture bwahhaaaa

i often confuse celine and enya confused. i’m okay with this.

I thought the first question was really good. I didn’t answer cos I’ve already got the book. So there 😉

Are they reciting poetry they’ve written?
Of course, my replies were meant to be other way around …
Thoraiya said
Um, there is actual singing involved. At least, Nimoy sings. Shatner does (tries to sing?) Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, with lots of impromptu shouting out “Lucy!” which would be the most hilarious track if it were not for the inclusion of a soliloquy from Hamlet…OMG!
Don’t get me wrong, I have paid good money for original Star Trek and all 5 seasons of Boston Legal. But I bet if these two had a time machine, this is what they’d go back and erase 😀

The correct answer to the second question, is, of course, “Spaced Out: The Best of Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner.”
Rowena Cory Daniells said
LOL, ‘cos you always win, don’t you?
Meant in the nicest possible way.
Thoraiya said
I had never won ANYTHING until about 2 months ago. Since then, it seems all my Christmasses have come at once 😀
*dances on free books, laughing maniacally*

shatner actually released a cool album a couple of years ago called HAS BEEN. he did it with ben folds. it was really quite shockingly good.
Thoraiya said
Hmmmmm! I don’t know if I can believe that 😀

OK, I just listened to “Common People” and it IS quite good…curse you 😉

told you 😛

It would have to be Dream Theatre’s ‘Train of Thought’. Mainly so that the headstone would read: ‘Struck dead by a Train of Thought.’ ;P
ben peek said
it’s true. it’s a lot more catchy than, say, ‘struck dead by six degrees of inner turbulance’ 😉

I always thought the lead singer of Dream Theatre sounds like Fabio being poked with a pencil. Sorry but it just had to be said.

My cousin’s wedding photo album. It’s big.
Oh and as for what my hobby would be if I lived in a city that floated in the sky? Almost certainly the same as it is now, since the novelty would wear off pretty quickly.
Barbara said
I suppose taking up urban exploration (of tunnels and drains beneath the city) would be right out.
ben peek said
nah, you have big cities floating in a sky, with huge drains hanging out of the bottom of it. like much in life, all the stuff you don’t want to see would get stashed where no one can see.
of course, in this case a whole bunch of people live on the ground, so…

It would need to be something epic to crush my enemy’s.
But more importantly, Ben, I hope you know we’re no strangers to love. You know the rules and so do I. A full commitment’s what I’m thinking of, you wouldn’t get this from any other guy. I just wanna tell you how I’m feeling, gotta make you understand exactly how much I love you is proportional to how much I would drop this song on my enemy’s.

Apparently it is late and I can’t spell…enemies

I would never make you cry, never tell you a lie, Olivya… I know the game and I’m gonna play.

Similar to Thoraiya I already have the ebook. But as for an album anything by this
ben peek said
hmm. seems to be missing a link?
possibly rick astly is destroying my mind, however.
Sean the Blogonaut said
You see this what happen when I don’t refresh my screen from the night before. If I try and rick roll someone and encounter an epic fail, is that like the equivalent of Rick Rolling myself?
ben peek said
the question here is, do you feel suitably rick rolled?

Well,
CDs are rubbish, even when you cut them into little shuriken they’re about as useful as a cardboard box in a shark tank. Vynyl has potential but only when you get the right spin — harder to throw with accuracy, but if you can master the technique, they will at least go in a straight line.
If you really don’t like the person, the best thing to drop would have to be a 78 rpm shellac. Those things are heavy and they fly like a lump of lead. Not only that, they shatter really impressively.
You’ve got to go back a ways to find anyone releaseing music in this format, but Shadow Wilson’s “Out of Nowhere” seems appropriate.
ben peek said
lol.
a vinyl of a jazz drummer. i googled that, btw, but couldn’t find ‘out of nowhere’ so you’re doing well on obscurity.
Rowena Cory Daniells said
LOL, can’t help yourself, Chris!

No Rowena, I can’t…Unfortunately for everyone 🙂

Thinking outside the square, there’s a particularly weighty photo album that I really should be chucking out anyway. The album itself was fairly horrendous to begin with, made from only the very cheapest of cardboards and plastic, and tastelessly covered in some sort of duffel bag print. Appropriately enough, it became a kind of emotional baggage repository, filled with photos I never wanted to see again (chiefly those featuring failed relationships), yet was too superstitious to destroy outright. The idea of hurling all my bad memories over some yawning abyss – what’s more, to then land on someone I didn’t like – does have a certain appeal to it.
As for the moral considerations of dropping something that bulky on people… well, the album’s construction is sufficiently shabby that most of it would disintegrate en route, and probably wouldn’t cause anything worse than concussion. Probably…
Alexander said
Gifted with hindsight, I now see someone’s already suggested a photo album. Apparently, the square is bigger than I gave it credit for…

gotta work hard with this group 😉
